Great Lakes Maritime Center Our Story

The RESA is known for innovative programs, offering educational enrichment programs and career and technical education opportunities for seven member districts. They were among the first to install a geothermal heating and cooling on campus. They have also implemented extensive energy conservation efforts resulting in a significant 10% in energy usage across campus. Among the initiatives: energy-efficient lighting; ceiling insulation; energy-efficient windows and doors; and computer-controlled HVAC system. Now the RESA can add renewable energy to its list of innovative programs- the 10kW wind turbine and tracking solar PV array will be remotely monitored by students and staff and serve as a great learning tool.
Since monitoring began 8/13/2010, this system has generated 20,155 kilowatt hours of clean energy.
